Anamalai Tiger Reserve, also known as Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary, is located in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. Sprawling over an area of 958 square kilometers, it is nestled in the Western Ghats mountain range and is named after the famous Anamalai Hills. The reserve is a biodiversity hotspot and supports a diverse range of flora and fauna, including the Bengal tiger, Indian elephant, gaur, leopard, as well as several endemic species of plants. The park's terrain is hilly and offers beautiful scenic vistas along with the opportunity to observe wildlife in their natural habitat. It is divided into core and buffer zones, with tourism activities mainly concentrated in the buffer zone. There are well-marked trails for trekking, and visitors can also take safari rides to explore deeper into the forest. The reserve is also a part of the Anamalai-Parambikulam Elephant Reserve and plays a crucial role in the conservation of the various species it houses.
