The Amarnath Temple, located in the remote and rugged area of the Himalayas in Jammu and Kashmir, India, is one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is situated on Brari Marg at an altitude of 3,888 meters (12,756 feet) and is accessible through strenuous treks from either Baltal or Pahalgam towns. The temple is famous for the natural occurrence of an ice stalagmite that resembles the Shiva Linga, which waxes and wanes with the moon's phases. It is considered particularly auspicious to visit during the annual pilgrimage called Amarnath Yatra, which takes place during the Shravan month as per the Hindu calendar.
