Best Time To Visit Bastar (Chhattisgarh) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Bastar, Chhattisgarh, India

Bastar, located in the heartland of India's Chhattisgarh state, is known for its natural beauty, tribal culture, and festive celebrations. The best time to visit Bastar is generally during the cooler months from October to March. During this period, the weather is pleasantly temperate, which allows for comfortable travel and exploration of the region's dense forests, historical sites, and waterfalls. The monsoon season, which lasts from July to September, recedes by October, leaving behind a lush green landscape that is a treat for the eyes. This is also the time when the famous Bastar Dussehra festival takes place, a unique cultural event that spans several weeks and showcases the local traditions and rituals distinctive to the tribal population.

For wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers, the post-monsoon period brings flora and fauna to life, making it an ideal time to visit. The winter months, particularly November and December, offer the most comfortable climate for wildlife safaris in the region's sanctuaries, like the Kanger Valley National Park. It's a great time to observe the biodiversity without the extreme temperatures found in the summer months. Also, with the holiday season in full swing, it's the perfect opportunity to indulge in the local handicraft markets that exhibit colorful handiwork of the Bastar artisans, notably the bell metal work, woodcraft, and tribal jewelry that the region is famous for. Sightseeing and outdoor activities such as hiking and visiting the Chitrakote Waterfalls, often referred to as the Niagara Falls of India, are more enjoyable with the mild winter weather.
