Bekal Fort, situated in Bekal, Kerala, India, is a historic fort enveloping over 40 acres by the Arabian Sea. Known as the largest fort in Kerala, it dates back to the 17th century and is believed to have been built by Sivappa Naik of the Ikkeri dynasty or may have existed since the Kolathiri's reign. The fort's design features massive walls with holes for defense and weaponry, complemented by a stunning observation tower that offers panoramic views. Within its compounds, the Hanuman temple and an old mosque built by Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore, mirror the region's diverse religious heritage. The Bekal Fort Beach adjacent to the fort is picturesque and adds to the charm of the historic monument, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists. The fort's uniquely keyhole-shaped structure, emerald green landscape, and the backdrop of the Arabian Sea provide an excellent opportunity for photography and observation of the region's natural beauty.

Beauttiful fort
The fort is being restored. The job being done is good . One can imagine the way artisans of those years did their work with such precision and finish. A must visit when in Bekal.

Beautiful view
A very nominal fee for a very well preserved monument. The view is exceptional. The only minus point is that it closes before the sunset, so you can't get the full effect of a seaside fort.

Nice place!
Architecture and the views are amazing. It is fairly well-kept and pretty crowded. There are a lot of stairs and a lot of walking to do if you want to reach the very top.

A must place to visit while in Bekal, though not much of the original fort is left the grounds are well maintained and offer an excellent view of the surrounding beaches.

Well preserved, worth a short visit
The fort is not large but it is very well preserved. There were no guides when we went to see it. Most of it consists of open lawns and a few turrets. Great views of the city and the sea.
