Unlike its larger and more famous counterpart, the Bekal Fort, Hosdurg is known for its chain of fortresses built by Somashekara Nayak of the Ikkeri dynasty. The fort has an imposing structure and is known for its round bastion that looks distinctly European. Hosdurg Fort also holds religious significance with the ancient Karpooreshwara Temple within its grounds, where local devotees come to worship. This less crowded tourist destination offers a deep dive into the history of southern India and provides a serene setting amidst the coconut palms and lush vegetation.
