The Blue Mosque, known as 'Gök Jami' locally, is a stunning historical and cultural landmark located in the heart of Yarnemovien, Yerevan, Armenia. It boasts a distinct Persian architecture, as it was built in 1766 during the period when Armenia was part of the Persian Empire. The mosque gets its name from the intricate blue tiles that adorn its minaret and its spacious dome. Spanning an area of about 7,000 square meters, it is the only operating mosque in Yerevan today, serving the local Iranian Shia community for religious activities. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a beautiful courtyard surrounded by chambers that were once used for religious education. The mosque has undergone several restorations, with the most recent one led by the Iranian government, preserving its original splendor. The interior decoration features traditional Persian Islamic art with an array of colorful patterns and calligraphy, making it a significant symbol of Persian influence in the region.
