The Yerevan Cascade is a massive staircase located in the heart of Yerevan, Armenia. It links the Kentron area, specifically the city center, with the Monument neighborhood. Designed and constructed during the Soviet era, the Cascade was envisioned by architect Jim Torosyan. Its construction began in 1971 but was not fully completed as originally planned due to the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Cascade complex is notable for its unique architecture and urban engineering; it consists of a series of escalators, courtyards, outdoor stairs, and fountains, ascending along a beautiful limestone facade. The structure contains multiple levels adorned with intricate sculptures, modernist artworks, and well-manicured garden spaces, making it a cultural hub and an embodiment of Yerevan's artistic spirit. It provides spectacular views of the city and Mount Ararat. The Cafesjian Center for the Arts, located within the Cascade, hosts a collection of contemporary art, and the surrounding area is vibrant with cafes and street musicians.
