Bo Sang Umbrella Village is a traditional craft village situated about 9 kilometers from the city of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Known for its exquisite handcrafted umbrellas and parasols, Bo Sang is often dubbed the 'Umbrella Village.' The artisans in Bo Sang have been making umbrellas for generations, a skill passed down through the years. These artisans use Sa paper, made from the bark of the mulberry tree, to create various umbrella sizes, often hand-painted with intricate designs reflecting Thai culture and natural motifs. Visitors can watch the fascinating process of making these umbrellas, from the bamboo framework construction to the final touches of painting and varnishing. Aside from the production of umbrellas, the village's streets are lined with shops selling their colorful creations as well as other handicrafts like fans, lanterns, and traditional Thai art. Bo Sang hosts an annual Umbrella Festival in January, attracting tourists to enjoy the vibrant display of umbrellas, traditional Lanna performances, and local crafts markets.
