A world-class zoo without the fuss
This is a deeply impressive zoo - up there with London and San Diego, but without all of the stifling “safety-litigious” faffery that is inflicted on many zoos. Here, some breeds of (child-friendly) monkeys are permitted to play on the same climbing equipment as are children; the safari component allows one to get man-to-giraffe with beautiful wildlife. We first took the (price-inclusive) cable car around the zoo, seeing everything from above. It is a huge place! We then explored on foot. Later, we took the “safari train”, which is a train of carriages pulled along a road. This looked infinitely preferable to seeing it in one’s own car, and so leave your car in the car park. The animals are very well-treated, the price is relatively expensive for China, but cheaper than London and the US. It is not immensely overcrowded, as a result, perhaps to its benefit. There were many school trips, and the atmosphere was positive and quite delightful. Even the shops were filled with decently fun toys, rather than the usual tourist tat, and which was not egregiously priced. A great day - heartily recommended if you have children, although there is plenty for adults too.
