Dochu La Pass is a high mountain pass located in Punakha, Bhutan, known for its captivating natural beauty and cultural significance. At an elevation of approximately 3,100 meters above sea level, it offers a panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain range. The pass becomes even more mystical with its 108 memorial chortens or stupas, known as 'Druk Wangyal Chortens' built by the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to honor the Bhutanese soldiers who perished in a 2003 military operation. Visitors are also greeted by the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang temple, which adds to the spiritual atmosphere of the location. The pass is adorned with vibrant prayer flags that flutter in the wind, which are believed to spread wisdom and compassion. The passage through Dochula Pass connects the capital city Thimphu to Punakha Valley, making it an essential route in Bhutanese travel.
