Durpin Monastery, also known as Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, is a revered Buddhist temple located on Durpin Hill in Kalimpong, West Bengal, India. It was consecrated by the Dalai Lama in 1976. The monastery belongs to the Gelugpa sect and houses sacred Buddhist scriptures brought from Tibet. From its elevated position at about 1,372 meters above sea level, it offers panoramic views of the Eastern Himalayan mountain range and the rolling plains below. The architecture of Durpin Monastery is traditional Tibetan with vibrant wall paintings depicting Buddhist themes. The main prayer room is serene and invites meditation. This spiritual haven is surrounded by verdant forests and gardens, adding to its tranquillity. Tourists come not only for spiritual solace but also to witness the breathtaking vistas that the hill provides. The monastery is also an important research center and repository of Tibetan literature and translations.
