Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave, is a significant archaeological site located on the island of Bali in Indonesia. The cave dates back to the 9th century, believed to be created as a spiritual place for meditation. The entrance of the cave features a menacing face that is said to ward off evil spirits, with the mouth as the door. It is carved with various reliefs depicting forest and animals, reflecting Hindu iconography. Inside the cave, there are several Hindu and Buddhist statues and a worship area. The site is surrounded by lush greenery and contains fountains, bathing pools, and other relics that suggest it was once a hermitage. Goa Gajah was listed as a tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site and remains a popular destination for tourists and cultural enthusiasts who seek to experience the historical and spiritual significance of Bali's rich heritage.
Worth a visit if you are passing by but don't go out of your way. The cave is quite small. Lots of steps to climb. I wasn't too
