Gurdwara Amb Sahib Tourism
Type of destination: Religious
Ideal visit duration: 1-2 hours
Gurdwara Amb Sahib, located in Mohali, Punjab, India, is a historical Sikh shrine with a unique backstory and serene environment. Situated in the suburban area of SAS Nagar, also known as Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, the gurdwara holds significant history, as it commemorates a visit by the 7th Sikh Guru, Guru Har Rai. According to tradition, Guru Har Rai came to this location to fulfill the wish of his devotee, Bhai Kuram, who desired to have darshan (sight) of the Guru. The gurdwara is named 'Amb Sahib' because it features a rare amb (mango) tree, which is believed to bear fruit during the off-season by the blessings of Guru Har Rai. It serves as an important spiritual destination for the Sikh community, with a tranquil atmosphere conducive to prayer and reflection. The architectural beauty of the Gurdwara, with its white marble and golden dome, provides a sense of peace. Devotees visiting Gurdwara Amb Sahib indulge in langar, community kitchen meal service, which embodies the Sikh principle of seva (selfless service). It is not only a religious site but also a cultural hub representing the harmonious values and teachings of Sikhism.
