The Jade Emperor Pagoda, also known as Ngoc Hoang Pagoda, is an iconic Taoist temple located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Built by the Cantonese community in the early 20th century around 1909, it is famed for its intricate architecture, ornate woodcarvings, and rich religious iconography. The temple is dedicated to the Jade Emperor, who is considered the Taoist God of the Heavens. As visitors enter the pagoda, they are greeted by the serene smoke of incense and the sight of antique wooden statues, each telling a story of mythical creatures, heros, and gods from Taoist and Buddhist lore. Among the most revered figures is the statue of the Jade Emperor himself, sitting majestically in the main hall.
