Jarain Pitcher Plant Lake, situated near Jowai in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, India, is a unique ecological destination that fascinates botanists and travelers alike. The lake is named after the Nepenthes khasiana, a rare carnivorous pitcher plant endemic to Meghalaya. Spanning across an area of approximately 50,000 square meters, the lake is surrounded by lush greenery and a well-maintained garden. Wooden boardwalks have been constructed around the perimeter to provide visitors with a vantage point for viewing the plants and marine life, and benches are scattered throughout for relaxation. The tranquil and scenic environment coupled with the interesting plant species makes Jarain Pitcher Plant Lake a significant tourist spot. The area around the lake has been developed to educate visitors on the pitcher plant species, which are a natural wonder due to their meat-eating nature. These plants have modified leaves known as pitfall traps—a prey-trapping mechanism featuring a deep cavity filled with digestive liquid.

Artifically cut lake
This lake was unique because it was completely cut out artificially and yet very well maintained by the authorities. I enjoyed boating on the lake.
