Kalpa is a small town situated in the Sutlej River Valley, above Reckong Peo in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is known for its apple orchards and ethnic village life amidst the magnificent backdrop of the Kinner Kailash mountain range. Kalpa offers a blend of Hindu and Buddhist cultures, which is reflected in the daily life of the locals as well as the architecture. The most striking feature of Kalpa is its serene beauty and the panoramic view of the Kinnaur Kailash range which towers over the village - a spectacular sight to behold especially at sunrise when the changing colors of the peaks can be a breathtaking sight. Traditional Kinnauri style homes and Buddhist temples in the village add to the charm. Kalpa is also known for its beautiful chilgoza pine trees. Kinnaur is much celebrated for its complex cultural heritage, fairytale-like landscapes, and rich biodiversity, with Kalpa being one of the highlights of the region.
