Idyllic Island, dodgy transport
This island is stunning and an ideal location for snorkeling with its clear waters & (relative) abundance of fish. There is a designated area cordoned off for swimming which was very safe & had a few fish to watch, but the vast majority of marine life was bordering this swimming area - on the other sides from where the boats are moored. We specifically paid for 7 people to go on a long tail boat so that in effect we had a private boat (there were just 4 of us) & we could thus predetermine our return time back to Aonang beach. In reality this proved not to be the case; even though I took a photo of the boatman alongside his boat number, he was a 'no show' at 3 p.m (our prearranged time). We were told (by other boatmen milling about) our return would be at 4 p.m. We were given a farsical excuse that there had been an 'accident'.....basically the boatman just wanted maximum time to do his own boat trips from Aonang Beach. Disappointing that you can't trust the long boat organisation at Aonang beach, but not such a bad place to be stranded at Poda island!
