Best Time To Visit Kohima (Nagaland) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Kohima, Nagaland

The best time to visit Kohima, the hilly capital of Nagaland, is during the dry winter months from October to May. This period is marked by clear skies and pleasant weather, ideal for outdoor activities and experiencing the cultural richness of the region. The winter season, specifically from November to February, tends to be cooler, making it a comfortable time for exploration. The temperature during these months ranges from a minimum of 4°C to a maximum of about 24°C. Travelers can enjoy the annual Hornbill Festival, which usually takes place in the first week of December, showcasing a mélange of cultural displays from various tribes of Nagaland.

The onset of spring in March and stretching into April endows the landscape with a vibrant burst of new foliage and flowering rhododendrons, enhancing the region's natural beauty. This is also an excellent time for birdwatching, trekking, and participating in local festivities. However, it is advisable to avoid the monsoon season, which spans from June to September, as heavy rains can lead to landslides and may disrupt travel plans. During the dry seasons, the roads are more navigable, and visitors can fully immerse themselves in the splendor of Kohima's hills, traditional villages, and remarkable heritage.
