Kolleru Lake Tourism

Kolleru Lake is a large freshwater lake located between the Krishna and Godavari deltas near Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, India. Spread over an area of about 90,100 hectares and nestled at an altitude of about 2 meters, it is considered one of the largest freshwater lakes in India. The lake is recognized as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention due to its rich biodiversity. It serves as a natural habitat for numerous resident and migratory birds, including the threatened sppon-billed Sandpiper. The lake supports the livelihoods of many fishermen and acts as a buffer system to prevent flooding of the nearby areas. Over the years, Kolleru Lake has faced environmental challenges, including encroachments and pollution, but conservation efforts are underway. Visitors can enjoy bird watching, boat rides, and serene views of the landscape marked by the rich flora and fauna.
