Kupup Lake, also known as Elephant Lake due to its elephant trunk-shaped outline, is a glacial beauty located in the Eastern Sikkim district near Zuluk at an altitude of 13,066 feet above sea level. This high-altitude lake is part of the ancient Silk Route and is enveloped by rugged mountains and a variety of flora that offers stunning views especially during the summer when rhododendrons and other alpine flowers bloom. The weather here is unpredictable, with fog often descending without warning, adding a mystical veil to the lake's serene beauty. Despite its remote location, Kupup Lake is a spectacular sight, particularly when viewed from the surrounding higher ground, which gives a complete view of the lake with its unique shape and the vast landscape around. Owing to its location, the area remains sparsely populated, and the lake itself is considered sacred by the local people.
