Best Time to Visit Little Petra (Siq al-Barid), Petra, Jordan

The ideal time to visit Little Petra, also known as Siq al-Barid, is during the spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November). During these months, the weather is temperate, offering a pleasant climate that is conducive for exploring. The spring season boasts a landscape rejuvenated by the winter rains, with wildflowers blooming across the surrounding hills. The temperatures are comfortable, ranging from 18°C to 25°C (64°F to 77°F), providing an excellent opportunity to walk through the archaeological site without the harsh sun and heat that dominate the summer months.

In contrast, autumn presents an equally favorable climate, with moderate temperatures and clear skies. This is the perfect time for visitors to enjoy the intricate facades and carvings of Little Petra without the crowds, as the peak tourist season starts to decline. Daytime temperatures hover between 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F), while evenings can get cooler, requiring light layering. It is recommended to travel in the early morning or late afternoon to capture the best light for photography when the ancient structures are warmly illuminated by the sun. This is also the season when Petra transforms during the 'Petra by Night' events, a magical experience that should not be missed by visitors to the area.
