Molai Forest, located on the Majuli Island in Assam, India, is a testament to the power of human dedication to environmental conservation. Spanning over an area of about 1,360 acres, this forest was single-handedly planted by Jadav Payeng, an environmental activist and forestry worker. Starting his work in 1979, Payeng transformed a barren sandbar of the Brahmaputra River into a thriving habitat for many species of plants and animals. The forest was named after him - 'Molai' being his nickname. The region has a rich biodiversity, including numerous trees and plants, elephants, tigers, deer, and various species of birds. It also contributes to combating soil erosion in the area. Majuli itself is known as the world's largest river island and holds significant cultural importance to Assam, being the hub of Assamese neo-Vaishnavite culture.
