How To Reach Monkey Beach

How to Reach Monkey Beach, Phi Phi Islands, Thailand

Monkey Beach is a picturesque destination located on Phi Phi Don, the largest of the Phi Phi Islands in Thailand. Renowned for its powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters, the beach is also home to a colony of friendly monkeys. Here's a guide to help you reach this tropical paradise.

Traveling to Phi Phi Islands:

  • By Air: The closest airport to Phi Phi Islands is Krabi International Airport. Another nearby airport is Phuket International Airport. From either airport, you can take a taxi or a bus to the respective piers for a ferry ride to Phi Phi Islands.
  • By Train/Bus: If you're coming from elsewhere in Thailand, like Bangkok, you can take a train to Surat Thani or a bus to Krabi or Phuket and then continue by ferry to the Phi Phi Islands.

Getting to Monkey Beach from Phi Phi Don:

Once you've arrived on Phi Phi Don, you have several options to get to Monkey Beach:

  • Longtail Boats: The most popular method is to hire a longtail boat from Tonsai Pier. The ride to Monkey enough Beach takes about 10 to 30 minutes depending on sea conditions.
  • Kayaking: For the more adventurous, you can rent a kayak from Tonsai Bay and paddle your way to Monkey Beach. This can be physically demanding and is best done in calm weather.
  • Walking: During low tide, it's possible to walk to Monkey Beach from Tonsai Bay along the coast. However, this can be quite a trek and is not recommended during high tide as the path can be submerged.

Important Tips:

  • Monkey Interaction: While the monkeys are a major attraction, it's important to observe them from a distance. Avoid feeding and touching the monkeys to prevent any possible aggression and to protect their natural behavior.
  • Tide Times: Check the tide times before planning your trip, especially if you plan to walk or kayak, as tides can significantly affect your ability to reach the beach.
  • Safety: Always prioritize safety on the water. Use life jackets when traveling by boat and follow local guidelines for a safe experience.
  • Sun Protection: The Thai sun can be very strong, so remember to bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Best Time to Visit:

The best time to visit Monkey Beach is during the cooler, dry season from November to April. During this time, the sea is calmer, making boat trips more enjoyable and safe.
