Moonland (Lamayuru) is located in the small village of Lamayuru in Ladakh, Jammu, and Kashmir, India. Characterized by its stunning lunar landscape, Lamayuru is often referred to as Moonland for the resemblance of its terrain with the moon's surface. This distinctive feature makes it a unique and mesmerizing sight, especially during full moon nights when the area seems otherworldly. Apart from the geological wonders, the region is host to the ancient and revered Lamayuru Monastery, one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh that dates back to the 10th century. Sitting at an elevation of approximately 3,510 meters, Moonland is encompassed by rugged mountains and scenic beauty. The moonscapes are created naturally by the erosion of the land’s yellowish soil and rock formations. The area remains relatively untouched, allowing for a serene experience unlike any other. With the Indus River flowing nearby and a backdrop of stark, dramatic Himalayan ranges, Lamayuru is not only a spiritual retreat but also an explorer’s paradise.
