Mount Kapaz, also known as Mount Goyazan, is an iconic mountain located in the Goygol district of Azerbaijan. The mountain stands at an altitude of approximately 3,065 meters, boasting a striking silhouette against the skyline. This natural landmark is known for its steep slopes and the flat top which resembles a plateau. The slopes of Mount Kapaz are covered with dense forests of the Goygol National Park, offering a habitat for a variety of wildlife including deer, wild goats, and bears. The name 'Kapaz' comes from its peculiar shape, as 'Qapaz' in Azerbaijani means 'bottle,' a reference to its narrow base and broad peak. The mountain is a part of the Lesser Caucasus range and is known for its geological and biological diversity. Hikers and climbers often visit this place for its challenging trails and the panoramic views it offers from the summit. The mountain is also adjacent to the beautiful Goygol Lake, formed due to an earthquake that created a natural dam, offering spectacular scenery and additional recreational opportunities like picnicking and camping.
