Goygol National Park is situated in the western part of Azerbaijan, renowned for its scenic beauty and rich biodiversity. Founded in 1925 as one of the USSR's first national parks, it was established to protect the area around Lake Goygol, which was formed as a result of a massive earthquake in 1139 that created the lake by damming a mountain stream. The national park extends over a large area of more than 12,755 hectares and features rugged mountains, dense forests, and over 50 small and large lakes, including the famous Lake Goygol. The park is also home to a variety of flora and fauna, some of which are rare and endangered species. The region's climate is temperate, with cold winters and mild summers, allowing for a diverse ecosystem to thrive. Goygol National Park offers opportunities for hiking, bird watching, and enjoying the natural beauty. Its unspoiled landscapes attract tourists from around the world, seeking to experience the serenity of the lake and the wilderness of the surrounding forest.
