Best Time To Visit Mulbekh Monastery (Mulbekh) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Mulbekh Monastery

The Mulbekh Monastery, a revered Buddhist site nestled in the serene landscapes of Ladakh, India, is best visited during the region's summer months, typically from June to September. During this period, the weather conditions are most favorable for tourists, with clear skies and temperatures ranging from approximately 15°C to 30°C. It is a perfect time for sightseeing and exploring the ancient monastery that boasts a blend of esoteric Buddhism and Tibetan influences, with the famed rock-carved Maitreya Buddha as its centerpiece. The summer season also ensures that the roads, including the Srinagar-Leh highway which leads to Mulbekh, are clear of snow, making for a safe and comfortable journey.

Travelers are advised to avoid planning visits in the winter months from November to February due to the harsh cold and heavy snowfall that Ladakh experiences. The temperatures during these months can plummet to -20°C and below, leading to inhospitable conditions and the closure of crucial passes, thus cutting off access to the region. If visiting towards the shoulder months of October or March, be prepared for a sudden shift in weather, as even though the day temperatures may be tolerable, the nights can be exceedingly cold. Additionally, during this time, fewer tourists visit, offering a more secluded experience, but it is crucial to check if the monastery is accessible and if accommodations are operational.
