How To Reach Naples (Italy) In 2026 - 2027

Traveling to Naples, Italy

Naples, or Napoli, as it's known in Italian, is a vibrant and historic city located on the west coast of Italy. Reaching Naples can be done through various modes of transport depending on your starting location.

By Air

If you're traveling from overseas or remote areas within Europe, flying may be the most efficient option. The city is served by Naples International Airport (Aeroporto di Napoli), which is located just 7 km northeast of the city center.

• Main Airlines: The airport hosts a range of domestic and international flights from airlines such as Alitalia, Ryanair, EasyJet, and Lufthansa.
• From the Airport to City Center: You can take the Alibus shuttle service, taxis, or private transfers to reach central Naples. The travel time is about 15-30 minutes depending on traffic.

By Train

Italy's extensive rail network makes it convenient to travel to Naples by train. The central station, Napoli Centrale, connects Naples with major Italian cities like Rome, Milan, Florence, and Venice, as well as smaller towns in the region.

• High-Speed Trains: Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa and Italo offer high-speed rail services, making it possible to arrive from Rome in about 1-2 hours.
• Regional Trains: Trenord, InterCity, and regional trains provide services at lower costs but with longer travel times.

By Bus

Bus services also link Naples to various Italian cities. Bus companies like FlixBus, ItaloBus, and SITA Sud provide frequent services, and the main bus terminal is next to the Napoli Centrale train station.

By Car

If you prefer driving, Naples is well connected by highways:

• From Rome: Take the Autostrada A1 (E45) directly to Naples. The journey should take about 2-3 hours depending on traffic.
• From the North: If you're coming from northern Italy, the A1 is the primary route as well.
• Parking: Naples is known for its busy streets, so consider parking on the outskirts of the city in a secured lot and using public transportation to get around.

By Ferry

Naples also has maritime connections. The Port of Naples offers ferry and hydrofoil services:

• Connections: Regular services connect Naples with the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida, as well as other coastal cities like Sorrento and Amalfi.
• International Routes: There are also routes to destinations such as Sicily, Sardinia, and Tunisia.

Once you arrive in Naples, you can explore the city's rich history, vibrant street life, delectable cuisine, and proximity to the stunning Amalfi Coast and the ancient ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
