How to Reach Naypyidaw

By Air

The primary gateway to Naypyidaw by air is through the Naypyidaw International Airport (NYT). This airport is connected to other cities in Myanmar like Yangon and Mandalay with domestic flights. International travelers typically fly into Yangon International Airport (RGN) or Mandalay International Airport (MDL), and then take a domestic flight to Naypyidaw.

By Road

Naypyidaw is well-connected by road and is reachable via bus or car. From Yangon, it is roughly a 320 km drive that takes about 4-6 hours on the Yangon-Naypyidaw-Mandalay Expressway. Comfortable VIP buses operate on this route, making road travel a popular choice for getting to Naypyidaw.

From Mandalay, the drive is shorter, taking approximately 3 hours over a distance of around 270 km via the same expressway.

By Rail

Naypyidaw is also accessible by train. The city has its own railway station called Naypyidaw Railway Station, with trains running from cities like Yangon and Mandalay. Train travel in Myanmar can be slower and less reliable than road travel, but it provides a scenic view of the countryside.

Local Transportation

Once in Naypyidaw, getting around can be challenging due to the city's wide streets and large distances between buildings. It is advised to use a rented car with a driver or avail of taxi services as there is no extensive public transportation system.
