Padum, once the capital of the ancient kingdom of Zanskar, is the largest and most populous settlement in the Zanskar region of Ladakh, in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Situated at an elevation of 3,500 meters, it offers breathtaking views of the rugged mountains and pristine landscape typical of the high-altitude desert environment of Ladakh. Padum serves as a base for treks and expeditions into the Zanskar Valley and is famous for its beautiful monasteries like Karsha Gompa, Stongdey Monastery, and the nearby Sani Monastery. This remote location is a haven for trekkers, mountaineers, and spiritual seekers. The area's isolation preserves its unique culture and traditions, largely influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.
