Construction of the dam began in 1961 and was completed in 1977 as part of the Pandoh-Baggi Tunnel project, aimed at generating hydroelectricity. The dam's main purpose is to divert water from the Beas River to the southwest into the Sutlej River, supporting the Beas-Sutlej link project. It plays a crucial role in providing electricity to the northern regions of India. The dam is approximately 76 meters in height and 1,829 meters in length, showcasing engineering expertise. Surrounded by the picturesque landscape of Kullu Valley, the site of the dam is a popular stopover for tourists on their way to Manali. The mesmerizing views of water, mountains, and the dam itself offer a tranquil escape and make it an excellent location for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Man Made Dam
Pandoh Dam is Basically a Man Made Dam when you come back from Manali you can visit one the way a short turn towards Pandoh dam from Chandigarh- Manali National Highway.

Great view from top
This dam is on the way when you are traveling from Shimla to Manali.This dam produces hydro power as well.On view point our car stopped for 5 to 10 minutes and we have taken some pictures.

One of the major Dams near Mandi
We passed through Pandoh dam on our trip from Shimla to Manali and on our return trip to Delhi. It offered some majestic views. Read that the water from this dam is used for generating electricity.
