Best Time To Visit Parangtritis Beach (Yogyakarta) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Parangtritis Beach, Yogyakarta

Parangtritis Beach is one of the most popular beaches near Yogyakarta, known for its scenic sunsets and the mystical atmosphere surrounding the Southern Java Sea. The best time to visit Parangtritis Beach is generally during the dry season, which runs from April to October. During these months, visitors can expect less rainfall, which makes it more convenient for beach activities, sunbathing, and horseback riding along the shore. Moreover, the dry season offers clearer skies, perfect for viewing the sunset over the horizon with less likelihood of obscuring clouds. The weather is usually sunny and warm, offering a pleasing beach experience, but it is still advised to be cautious of strong undercurrents when swimming.

If you are looking to attend cultural events, plan your visit during the Javanese month of Sapar, which is usually around November or December depending on the Javanese calendar, when the annual Larung Laut ceremony takes place. This traditional ceremony involves offerings being cast into the sea, and it's an integral part of the local spiritual practice believed to appease the Queen of the Southern Sea. Even though this period can be slightly wetter due to the start of the rainy season, it is a unique time to witness Javanese culture. However, for general tourism purposes, sticking to the month range of April to October will provide the most comfortable climatic conditions for a visit to Parangtritis Beach.
