Pulicat Lake Tourism

Pulicat Lake is the second-largest brackish water lagoon in India, located on the border of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu near the Coromandel Coast. Covering over 600 square kilometers, the lake encompasses the Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary, where migratory birds such as flamingos and pelicans come in large numbers during the winter season. Historically, the area around Pulicat Lake has been known for its diverse ecosystems and rich cultural heritage, with the ancient town of Pulicat having been a key trading post for the Dutch East India Company. The lake's ecosystem includes a range of aquatic flora and fauna, and it acts as an important stopover for migratory waterbirds. Surrounded by a mosaic of salt marshes, swamps, and small islands, it provides livelihood resources for thousands of fishermen residing in the nearby villages.
