Best Time to Visit Purple Mountain (Zijin Shan), Nanjing, China

Purple Mountain (Zijin Shan) is a picturesque destination located in Nanjing, known for its historical significance, stunning natural beauty, and cultural landmarks. The best time to visit this scenic spot is in the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During spring, the weather is comfortable, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C. This season brings out the vibrant colors of the blossoming plums, azaleas, and cherry trees, making the mountain trails extremely picturesque. The pleasant climate makes it an ideal time for outdoor activities such as hiking and sightseeing, as well as experiencing traditional festivals like the Qingming Festival when people pay respects to their ancestors.

Autumn is equally appealing, characterized by crisp air and clear skies, with temperatures typically between 15°C and 20°C. The mountain is shrouded in a golden hue as the leaves change their colors, providing a beautiful backdrop for visitors. It is the perfect time to appreciate the scenic beauty without the summer heat or the winter chill. Additionally, the Double Ninth Festival (Chongyang Festival) occurs in the autumn and is marked by activities such as climbing hills and enjoying the chrysanthemum blossoms, which are believed to bring good luck. Despite being less crowded than the peak tourist season of summer, the spring and autumn months offer a more relaxed visit with the opportunity to engage deeply with the mountain’s natural and historical wonders.
