About Ramanathaswamy Temple
The Ramanathaswamy Temple is a prominent Hindu shrine located on Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island, in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is a significant pilgrimage destination, particularly for followers of Shaivism. Ramanathaswamy Temple is also a part of the Char Dham pilgrimage, making it highly revered among Hindu devotees. The sprawling complex houses several theerthams - sacred water bodies, with the Agni Theertham being the most notable one where pilgrims perform rituals. The temple's history is closely associated with the epic, Ramayana, where Rama is believed to have prayed to Shiva here.
