Rasmancha is a historical structure in Bishnupur, a town renowned for its terracotta temples, located in the Bankura district of West Bengal, India. This pyramidal building, established by King Bir Hambir in 1600 CE, represents the unique blend of brick and laterite in Bengal architecture. Unlike the typical terracotta temples dedicated to Hindu deities, Rasmancha was built primarily to host the annual Ras Yatra. During this festival, deities from Bishnupur's various temples were brought here to be worshipped by the masses. The Rasmancha stands as the oldest brick temple in the region, featuring a distinctive structure with a central pyramidal tower surrounded by hut-shaped turrets. The interiors contain a circumambulatory path with arched doorways and a vast courtyard. Although it no longer serves religious purposes, its architectural beauty continues to attract historians, architects, and tourists from around the globe. The Archaeological Survey of India maintains this precious heritage site today.
