Shyamrai Temple, located in Bishnupur, West Bengal, India, is a historical edifice that stands as a symbol of the rich cultural heritage of the region. Built in 1643 by King Raghunath Singha of the Malla dynasty, this temple illustrates the exquisite craftsmanship of the terracotta artisans of Bengal. The temple is renowned for its remarkable terracotta panels that depict scenes from the Hindu epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, along with various aspects of Lord Krishna’s life. This architectural masterpiece is designed in the classic Pancha Ratna style, characterized by five towers, with the central one being the tallest. The structure is made of laterite and brick, which supports the delicate terracotta artwork. It has a char-chala or four-sloped roof, which is a distinct feature of Bengali architecture.
