Salar Jung Museum is a repository of the artistic achievements of diverse European, Asian, and Far Eastern cultures. The museum is situated at Darulshifa on the southern bank of the Musi river in the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It was established in 1951 and is one of the three National Museums in India. The museum is the life’s work of Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, Salar Jung III, and is the largest collection of antiques by any one person. The eclectic collection consists of over a million objects ranging from sculptures, paintings, carvings, textiles, manuscripts, ceramics, metallic artefacts, carpets, clocks, and furniture from Japan, China, Burma, Nepal, India, Persia, Egypt, Europe, and North America. One of the most notable pieces is the marble sculptures of Veiled Rebecca and Mephistopheles and Margaretta. The museum also features a Quran collection from around the world in different fonts and designs. The collections spread across 38 galleries and are organized into Indian Art, Middle Eastern Art, Far Eastern Art, European Art, and a Children's Museum.
