Best Time To Visit Sheosar Lake (Skardu) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Sheosar Lake, Skardu, Pakistan

The ideal period to embark on a journey to Sheosar Lake in Skardu, Pakistan, is during the summer months, particularly from late June to early September. During this time, the weather at Sheosar Lake is most favorable, with temperatures that are comfortable and conducive to exploration and sightseeing. This alpine lake, situated in Deosai National Park at an elevation of approximately 4,142 meters above sea level, becomes accessible only when the snow from the surrounding Himalayan peaks melts away, usually by late June. Visitors during these months are greeted with a vibrant display of wildflowers, green grass, and a panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains reflecting in the lake’s crystal-clear waters.

Traveling outside of these recommended months can be challenging and sometimes dangerous due to the harsh and unpredictable weather. The region may experience extended periods of heavy snowfall, particularly from late September to mid-June, which can obstruct access roads and make the lake inaccessible. Even during the summer, weather in the high-altitude Deosai Plains can be fickle, so it's prudent for visitors to be well-prepared and to check local weather conditions before setting out. However, those who choose the optimal time to visit will experience one of Pakistan's most awe-inspiring natural wonders in its full splendor, with the added benefit of the diverse wildlife of Deosai National Park, including the Himalayan brown bear and various bird species, being more visible.
