Sheshnag Lake is an alpine high altitude oligotrophic lake situated at the track leading to Amarnath cave 23 kilometers from Pahalgam in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Nestled at an elevation of about 3,658 meters (11,985 ft), it is considered one of the most pristine and serene lakes in the region. According to Hindu mythology, Sheshnag, the king of snakes, is said to have dug this lake and reside within it. The lake is encompassed by lush meadows and snow-clad mountains, which create a picturesque and tranquil environment, perfect for nature lovers and trekkers seeking solace and adventure. It is accessible via a trek from Chandanwari in Pahalgam and serves as a halt for pilgrims on their way to the holy Amarnath cave. a little Disappointing!
This picture is deceiving because it didnt snow this winter. hence there was barely any water in the lake. I sincerely hope global warming doesn't cause any more damage.
