The Thousand Pillar Temple, also known as the Rudreshwara Swamy Temple, is an architectural marvel of the Kakatiya dynasty located in Warangal, Telangana, India. This historic temple, constructed by King Rudra Deva in 1163 CE, is renowned for its intricate carvings and rich iconography. Featuring the style of Chalukyan architecture, the temple is dedicated to the Hindu trinity – Lord Shiva, Vishnu, and Surya. The name 'Thousand Pillar Temple' is derived from the many pillars that intricately support the structure's three shrines. These pillars showcase the exquisite craftsmanship of the era, adorned with detailed sculptures and reliefs depicting mythological episodes. The temple stands on a platform known as the star-shaped 'Trikutalaya,' denoting the trio of deities. Though partly ruined by the Tughlaq dynasty during their invasion of South India, the temple has undergone restoration. It is now considered an eloquent testimony of the grandeur of Kakatiya art.
