This sanctuary, spreading over an area of approximately 812 sq km, was established in 1952 to protect the rich biodiversity of the region. Nestled on the banks of the Godavari River, it represents the thick forest belt of the Deccan Plateau and features a varying topography including hills and water bodies such as perennial springs and Godavari River. The dense forests are home to a multitude of flora and fauna. It is an abode for a variety of animal species such as tigers, leopards, wolves, and sloth bears.
