Tiger's Nest Monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang, is one of Bhutan's most revered and iconic landmarks. Perched precariously on the edge of a 900-meter cliff in the Paro Valley, this incredible monastery is said to be where Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, meditated for three years, three months, three weeks, three days, and three hours in the 8th century. He is believed to have flown to this site on the back of a tigress, hence the monastery’s name. The only way to reach this stunning site is by a hike up the mountain, adorned with prayer flags and breathtaking views. It's a spiritual retreat for both Buddhists and travelers. Though the original construction dates back to 1692, the complex has undergone several renovations after being damaged by fire. The monastery complex is composed of several temples and residential shelters elegantly designed with a traditional Bhutanese architectural style, featuring white walls, red cloth, and gilded roofing.
