The Tomb of Hasan Khan Suri is situated in Sasaram, a city of historical importance in the state of Bihar, India. It is the mausoleum of Hasan Khan Suri, the father of the well-known emperor Sher Shah Suri, who founded the Sur Empire in northern India. This striking example of Indo-Islamic architecture manifests an impressive amalgamation of Persian and Indian styles. The sandstone tomb is a dome-shaped structure standing on a high square platform accessible by a flight of steps. The edifice is remarkable for its intricate carvings and calligraphy, adorned with detailed stone jaalis (latticed screens). Not far from this tomb is the more famous Sher Shah Suri’s Mausoleum, a UNESCO-designated site. The Tomb of Hasan Khan Suri is however, less frequented, offering a quiet and reflective ambience. Embedded within the historical narrative of Sasaram, this tomb not only commemorates a notable figure but also represents a significant period in the architectural and cultural history of India.
