Best Time To Visit Ueno Park And Zoo (Tokyo) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Ueno Park and Zoo, Tokyo, Japan

Spring Season (Late March to Early April): The most iconic and ideal time to visit Ueno Park is during the spring when the cherry blossoms, or sakura, are in full bloom. This period is known for the spectacular hanami (flower viewing) parties where friends and family gather under the blooming trees. The best viewing typically lasts just a week or so, and the exact timing varies each year depending on the weather. To see the park at its most vibrant, keep an eye on the sakura forecast and plan your visit when blooms are predicted to be at their peak. The Ueno Zoo also provides a pleasant experience during this time as the weather is comfortably cool, perfect for walking around and enjoying the outdoor exhibits.

Autumn Season (November to Early December): If you prefer a quieter visit with less crowd, autumn is another great option. The park turns into a canvas of reds, oranges, and yellows as the leaves change colors, offering a different yet equally stunning backdrop for your visit. Cooler weather during this time makes for a comfortable zoo experience as well. Early November is ideal if you aim to catch the foliage at its best, but similarly to sakura season, the autumn leaves can be quite transient, so timing your visit might be tricky. Additionally, the Ueno Zoo occasionally hosts special autumn night openings, giving you the unique opportunity to see nocturnal animals in action.
