Best Time to Visit Ushakothi Wildlife Sanctuary, Sambalpur, Odisha

The optimal period for visiting the Ushakothi Wildlife Sanctuary in Sambalpur, Odisha, is during the cooler months of October to March. During these months, the weather in Odisha is more pleasant, with milder temperatures and lower humidity, making wildlife spotting and outdoor activities more comfortable for tourists. The monsoon season, which typically ends by September, ensures that the forest is lush and provides ample water sources for animals, thus enhancing the chances of sighting them as they frequent these spots for hydration.

Winter months, in particular, are ideal as the sanctuary offers a respite from the sometimes chilly temperatures with its milder climate, and the animals are more active throughout the day. Birdwatchers also favour this season, as migratory birds arrive at the sanctuary, making it a vibrant period for avian enthusiasts. However, it is important to note that while winter mornings can be especially rewarding with increased animal activity, it's advisable to dress in layers as it can be quite cold during early morning safaris. Additionally, the sanctuary may observe shorter visiting hours during winter, so it's recommended to check ahead with local authorities or tour operators for the precise timings.
