War Cemetery Tourism

The War Cemetery in Imphal, Manipur, is a solemn reminder of the tumultuous events of World War II. It was built and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to honor the British and Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the Battle of Imphal (1944), one of the turning points of the war in Southeast Asia. The cemetery is beautifully landscaped, providing a tranquil setting for reflection. Set on a peaceful hillock, the site has two main sections, one for Christians and another for Hindus and Sikhs. The cemetery contains well-aligned graves marked by simple headstones, with each bearing the name, rank, regiment, and date of death of the soldier. An immaculately maintained place, the cemetery's green lawn is interspersed with colorful flower beds and shaded by exotic trees. Visitors there get a perspective of the scale of sacrifice and the international nature of the conflict, with servicemen from various countries laid to rest.
