How To Reach Yangon

Traveling to Yangon, Myanmar

Yangon International Airport (Mingaladon) is the primary international gateway for travelers to Myanmar. It's located approximately 15 kilometers north of downtown Yangon. Major airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, and a few others operate flights to Yangon. Upon arrival at the airport, visitors can take a taxi, bus, or arrange a hotel shuttle to reach the city center.

By Road

Entering Myanmar by land is possible through its border crossings with neighboring countries like Thailand, India, Laos, and China. However, it is recommended to check the current status of land borders as they are subject to change based on immigration rules. The most commonly used crossing from Thailand to Myanmar is at the Mae Sot (Thailand) / Myawaddy (Myanmar) border. After crossing, travelers can find buses or shared taxis to reach Yangon.

By Train

Myanmar has a railway network that connects major cities, including Yangon. Trains for Yangon can be boarded from cities like Mandalay or Bagan. Although the journey is often long and slow, it provides a unique opportunity to see the countryside.

By Bus

Long-distance buses operate between Yangon and other cities in Myanmar such as Naypyidaw, Mandalay, Inle Lake, and Bagan. The bus network is often the most practical and economical way to travel within the country. The main bus terminals in Yangon are Aung Mingalar Bus Terminal and Dagon Ayeyar Bus Terminal.
