Ahsan Manzil, known as the Pink Palace, is an emblematic structure located in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. Situated on the banks of the Buriganga River, it was the official residential palace of the Nawab family of Dhaka. The construction of this palatial edifice started in 1859 and was completed in 1872 under the direction of Nawab Abdul Ghani. The architecture of Ahsan Manzil is a remarkable blend of Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture. It is a two-storied building, consisting of 31 rooms with a dome atop which stands out with its distinctive pink color—hence, its popular nickname. The interior is magnificently decorated, reflecting the sumptuous lifestyle of the Nawab family. After the end of the Nawab dynasty, the palace fell into a state of disrepair, but it was later restored and converted into a museum in 1992. The museum houses a vast collection of objects showcasing the heritage and history of the area, including photographs, furniture, and utensils from the time of the nawabs. The lush green lawns and the grand staircase leading to the palace add to its grandeur, making it a significant historical and architectural treasure of Dhaka.
