History of Tourism

The Baba Ramdev Temple, also known as Ramdevra Temple, is located in the Runicha village near Pokhran in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. It holds a significant place in the hearts of devotees. Baba Ramdev was a 14th-century folk deity of Rajasthan who devoted his life to the upliftment of the downtrodden. He is venerated by all communities in the region, making the temple a symbol of unity and communal harmony.

Historically, the temple rose to prominence as stories of Baba Ramdev's miracles spread throughout the region, delivering him a status akin to a saint. Over the years, the modest temple became a site of annual pilgrimage, known as Ramdevra Fair, attracting thousands of devotees from various parts of India, especially from Rajasthan and Gujarat.

While the temple has been a place of worship for centuries, it wasn't until the late 20th century that it began to draw attention from the broader tourism industry. The inclusion of spiritual and religious destinations in Rajasthan's tourism circuit, coupled with the improvement in transportation and infrastructure in areas like Pokhran, has facilitated access to the temple and has contributed to its popularity.
